25. More Serious Faults

However, a brother found guilty of a more serious fault is to be banned both from the table and also from the oratory. None of the brothers is to join him for any fellowship or conversation. Let him work alone at his assigned task and endure the sorrow of repentance while remembering that dreadful sentence of the Apostle, who said:

One like that is handed over for the destruction of the flesh so that the spirit may be saved on the Day of the Lord. (1 Cor 5:5)

He should take the food for his meal alone, both in the measure and at the time that the abbot thinks best for him. 6 No one passing by should bless either him or the food given to him.
