8. The Divine Office at Night

During the wintertime, that is from the first of November until Easter, the brothers should rise at the eighth hour, as this seems reasonable, so that, having rested till somewhat past midnight, they might rise with everything already digested.

The brothers who still have some of the Psalter or readings to learn should devote themselves to study during the time that remains after Vigils.

4 Then from Easter till the first of November, let the hour be adjusted so that after a short interval – during which the brothers may leave the oratory as nature demands – Matins, which should take place at the first light, may follow without delay.
