16. The Arrangement for the Divine Office during the Day

The Prophet says:

Seven times a day
I have recited your praise. (Ps 119:164)

We shall fulfill this sacred number of seven if we carry out the duties of our service at Matins, Prime, Terce, Sext, None, Vespers, and Compline.

For it was concerning these hours of the day that the Prophet said:

Seven times a day
I have recited your praise. (Ps 119:164)

As for the Night Vigil, that same Prophet said:

In the middle of the night,
I would rise to confess you. (Ps 119:62)

Therefore, at these times, let us return praise to our Creator for the judgments of his justice: that is, at Matins, Prime, Terce, Sext, None, Vespers, and Compline; and let us rise in the night to confess him.
