16. The Arrangement for the Divine Office during the Day
Seven times a day
I have recited your praise. (Ps 119:164)
2 We shall fulfill this sacred number of seven if we carry out the duties of our service at Matins, Prime, Terce, Sext, None, Vespers, and Compline.
3 For it was concerning these hours of the day that the Prophet said:
Seven times a day
I have recited your praise. (Ps 119:164)
4 As for the Night Vigil, that same Prophet said:
In the middle of the night,
I would rise to confess you. (Ps 119:62)
5 Therefore, at these times, let us return praise to our Creator for the judgments of his justice: that is, at Matins, Prime, Terce, Sext, None, Vespers, and Compline; and let us rise in the night to confess him.
