Banner: OER and Course Design

OER, as covered in the previous module, are educational materials licensed under a Creative Commons license. Here we will take OER to the next level with a course design process that integrates OER. There are many ways to do this. You will likely find your way of designing with OER in mind according to your institutional specifications. However, there are some basics of solid course design to consider, regardless of the finalized process.

This module aims to increase users’ familiarity with course design and OER and encourage their integration into components wherever possible.

This is important in higher education as costs continue to rise and with the advent of more technology that challenges traditional teaching methods. With OER, faculty have the option of not only selecting unique learning materials but also creating unique course content.

Though this chapter is more focused on instructional design, librarians and instructional technologists can also benefit from this information.
